Public Safety

Everyone deserves to live in a safe neighborhood. As your representative in Congress, your safety will always be my top priority.

Public safety means making sure law enforcement has the resources to investigate and prosecute crime. It means passing commonsense gun safety laws to keep firearms out of the hands of criminals. And it means listening to law enforcement leaders who tell us we are safer when we invest in mental health care, housing support, addiction treatment, and youth programs that prevent crime before it happens.

As a child, my family saw firsthand the long-term impact crime can have on victims and their loved ones. I’ve also seen the difference that well-trained, well-equipped law enforcement can make in keeping our communities safe. As a member of the Richardson City Council, I’ve had the honor of working alongside first responders and seeing their dedication up close —

as well as the challenges they carry long after their shift ends.

At the end of the day, when we look beyond what divides us, we’re all fighting for the same things: safe schools, safe streets, and safe communities. Together we can create a safer Texas.

My Priorities in Congress

• Address the root causes of crime: Invest in well-funded schools, youth programs, mental health care, and substance abuse treatment to prevent crime before it happens.

• Strengthen law enforcement: Ensure agencies at the federal, state, and local levels have the resources to investigate and prosecute crime, while investing in training, oversight, and accountability for those who violate their oath.

• Support survivors of crime: Expand funding for the Victims of Crime Act and the Violence Against Women Act to provide financial, legal, housing, and counseling support.

• Protect the Second Amendment while reducing gun violence: Require universal background checks, crack down on traffickers who illegally supply guns to criminals and street markets, and raise the age for certain semi-automatic rifles with high-capacity features.

• Invest in strong reentry programs: Expand job training, housing, and treatment programs that reduce recidivism and help formerly incarcerated individuals successfully return to their communities.
